Zach Hooks, former Charleroi OL, transfers to Aliquippa

The rich just got a little richer.

Perennial WPIAL football power Aliquippa already was returning 14 starters from a young 2009 team that finished 11-2 and reached the school’s 20th WPIAL championship game.

Now, the Quips will have an anchor on the offensive line.

According to Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, former Charleroi offensive lineman Zach Hooks has transferred to Aliquippa.  Hooks is a 6’6, 290-pound behemoth on the offensive line and likely will play football for a major D-1 college after his senior season.

Hooks has an offer from Pitt, but has generated interest from schools like Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Penn State, according to his profile on Rivals.com.

While at Charleroi, Hooks helped pave the way for running back Quentin Briggs, who ran for over 1,200 yards last year and over 2,200 yards for his career.

Charleroi finished the 2009 season with a 6-4 overall record and averaged 23 points per game.  The Cougars, who did not qualify for the WPIAL playoffs, finished their season with a 31-6 victory against Bentworth.
