Upper St. Clair junior-to-be has major Division-1 potential
Written by: Josh Funk on Sunday, January 10th, 2010Upper St. Clair junior-to-be Dakota Conwell will more than likely be the school’s next big Division-1 football recruit.
Head football coach Jim Render says that Conwell will be, “a good one,” and that the potential exists to run some varied offensive sets beyond the Panthers’ basis of their multiple-I offense.
Schools like Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, and West Virginia have shown interest in the 6’0, 200 pound athlete. He does not yet own a Division-1 offer.
Conwell will be a prospect in Pennsylvania’s 2012 recruiting class. Rivals’ database lists Conwell as a linebacker – he racked up 71 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and an interception last season – but he could possibly gain some notoriety on offense. In a reserve role, Conwell ran for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns last season.
Dakota is the younger brother of Dane Conwell, a former Panther running back who went on to play football at Indiana. Dane, in his senior season at Upper St. Clair, helped the Panthers finish a perfect 16-0 season with the school’s second PIAA championship, a 47-13 rout of Bethlehem Liberty. The elder Conwell ran for 160 yards and five touchdowns in the romp.
