Thomas Jefferson K Michael Wainauskis generating D-1 interest

A kicker from the WPIAL has received a lot of interest from Division-1 and some Division 1-FCS (formerly 1-AA) schools, according to Rivals.com.

Thomas Jefferson K Michael Wainauskis has received interest, but no offers, from nine Division-1 programs – Akron, Alabama, Duke, Iowa State, Kent State, LSU, Ohio, Virginia, and Western Michigan – according to his profile on Rivals.com. Wainauskis has also received interest from D-1 FCS schools Delaware, New Hampshire, and Towson.

Wainauskis handled the placekicking, punting and kickoff duties for Thomas Jefferson last season. He converted 55 extra points and three field goals, scoring 64 of TJ’s 438 points on the season (14.61 percent of the team’s season scoring).

On 77 kickoffs, Wainauskis booted 13 touchbacks and averaged 44.58 yards per kick. On 37 punts, Wainauskis averaged just over 31 yards per kick, with a long of 54 yards.

Thomas Jefferson finished the 2009 season with an 11-1 overall record, falling to West Allegheny in the WPIAL “AAA” semifinals, 28-21. It was the first year TJ had not reached the WPIAL “AAA” championship game since 2002.

In the last eight years, Thomas Jefferson is 103-9 overall (.919).
