Small School Team # 9 Brentwood (7) 0-0Written by: David Mika on Thursday, August 23rd, 2012
Admittedly, Brentwood is not exactly a household name in the statewide landscape of Class A football, but by no means should the Spartans be discounted, especially in 2012. Coming off of a 9-2 season in 2011, Brentwood has several pieces back from a team that could be poised for a possible 10-win season and berth in the WPIAL A semifinals, depending upon seeding and matchups, of course.
Junior running back Justin Vickless ran for 1,017 yards and is over 1,500 yards rushing for his career. Quarterback Chris Shortley threw for nearly 1,000 yards. Tight end Michael Kish, an Akron recruit, averaged 13 yards per reception and scored two touchdowns and was also a force defensively. Brentwood also returns several pieces along its offensive and defensive lines as well, making them a pretty well-rounded team. Of course the road to a WPIAL championship goes through Clairton, but Brentwood has the makings, as was stated previously, to be one of the WPIAL’s top-four teams in the state’s smallest class when all is said and done.
