Team #7 Upper St. Clair (7)
Written by: David Mika on Saturday, August 28th, 2010Consecutive seasons of 6-4 and opening round exits from the WPIAL AAAA playoffs may not be quite what the Panthers are accustomed to. But, following Upper St. Clair’s 5th WPIAL and 2nd PIAA championship in 2006, the best the Panthers have done is reached the WPIAL quarterfinals in 2007, falling to Gateway, 32-20. The Panthers aim to improve despite losing QB Alex Park (1,442 yards of offense, 14 total TD) and leading receiver Tom Kikta (24 rec., 419 yards, 4 TD). Junior Dakota Conwell, a possible Division-1 prospect at linebacker in the 2012 class who has interest from Michigan, Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia, will take over the QB position, OL Ian Park (a junior) is a potential Division-1 prospect, LB Matt Doman (120 tackles, 6 sacks), TE/LB Drew Newman (61 tackles), and ATH Connor Scott (678 all-purpose yards, 6 TD; 65 tackles, 2 INT) provides a nice nucleus for 335-game winner Jim Render to build around.
