The Gators’ season did not entirely go down the tubes when prized senior Dondi Kirby tore his ACL in a 7-on-7 passing camp. Sure, Kirby, who was nearing 20 Division-1 scholarship offers, was going to play a pivotal role on defense and possibly even quarterback, but there are some other athletes who can help stir Gateway’s drink this season. WR/LB Armstead Williams, DL Sascha Craig, LB Nolan Toran and LB Darrell Turner all return, and sophomore QB Thomas Woodson could be an electrifying athlete. Woodson has to step up to replace Rob Kalkstein (41-9 record, 6,491 passing yards, 72 TD, 3 consecutive trips to WPIAL finals). Aside from questions that may loom about the young field general, big areas that need filled are at running back and wide receiver, as Gateway lost its top three rushers from a year ago.
