Team # 5 Cathedral Prep (10) 0-0

Written by: on Monday, August 29th, 2011

The two-time defending District 10 AAA champion Ramblers are the highest ranked non-WPIAL team appearing in this poll. And there doesn’t appear to be much resistance standing in Cathedral Prep’s way of a third straight AAA district crown this year, which would be the program’s 18th District 10 football championship since the region began a district playoff format in 1985.

In the first two years under Mike Mischler in his return to Cathedral Prep, the orange and black have gone 20-8 overall, scored 1,076 points (38.4 points per game) and reached the PIAA AAA semifinals opposite Bishop McDevitt last year.

The Ramblers’ offensive unit will be led by dynamic junior field general Damion Terry (99-of-191, 1,780 yds, 19 TD; 107 rush, 555 yds, 8 TD) is already generating quite a load of Division-1 interest from programs like Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Pitt, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin, among others.  Senior running back Athony Jordan (105 rush, 701 yds, 31 rec., 693 yds, 22 total TD) may be the best multi-purpose back in all of District 10 and could be considered one of the top multi-purpose offensive weapons in Class AAA.  Prep will also be led by junior back Craig Heidelberg (56 rush, 359 yds, 6 TD) and receivers Kimani Smith (Sr., 19 rec., 437 yds, 3 TD) and Delton Williams (Jr., 10, 208).  The Ramblers will be aided by the return of three starters along the offensive line – Anthony Ernst, Chris Bleggi and Lars Baumann.

Defensively, junior linebacker Jake Plonski (team-leading 96 tackles) returns to help lead the Ramblers.
