Team # 4 Springdale (7) 0-0

Written by: on Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

If you want an old-school style football team that has consistent success year in and year out, Springdale might be a team you’d pick.  The Dynamos have made nine consecutive trips to the WPIAL A playoffs, and reached the semifinals last season opposite Clairton, finishing 10-2 overall.  While the Dynamos lose a 1,000-yard rusher in Bill Arch and lineman like 350-pounder Nathan Joyce and 240-pounder Jake Summerill, the orange and black still has some punch left. Nick Korzon and Nick Welsh each saw significant time on both the offensive and defensive lines last season and will provide a veteran presence in both sets of trenches.

Also defensively, linebackers Sean Dugan (83 tackles) and Chris Liberto (111 tackles, 5 sacks) return, and both were selected to the Valley News Dispatch’s 2010 post-season first team defensive unit.  Offensively, Liberto (713 rush yards, 13 TD), Dugan (663 rush yards) and quarterback Joe Killian (1,000+ yards rushing and passing combined) return to spearhead a Springdale offensive unit which averaged more than 30 points per game.

The Dynamos figure to be one of the prime contenders in the WPIAL A landscape for a berth at Heinz Field, which would be Springdale’s third title game appearance since 2003.
