Team # 2 Seton-LaSalle (7) 0-0

Written by: on Thursday, September 1st, 2011

The highest-ranked AA team in this poll, Seton-LaSalle boasted quite the high-flying offensive unit last season, averaging 36.9 points per game en route to a 9-2 record and berth in the WPIAL AA quarterfinals opposite Ford City.

Helping to spearhead the returning skill for the Rebels is senior running back Kevin Hart.  Hart, who holds offers from some Mid-American Conference and 1-AA programs, had quite the junior season, running for a team-best 1,588 yards and scoring 30 total touchdowns rushing and receiving.  He’s run for 2,093 yards in his career for the Rebels.  Adding to the offensive fireworks for the Rebs is fullback Nick Syvjw, backup running back Tommy Rizza and junior quarterback Luke Brumbaugh, a younger brother of former South Fayette gunslinger Christian Brumbaugh.  Luke, who already holds verbal offers from Duquesne and St. Francis, spelled an injured Dave O’Brien in the WPIAL quarterfinals, connecting on six passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns.  Top receiving targets Michael DelSardo and Chad Dawgiello (combined 78 receptions, 1,382 yds in the ’10 regular season) graduated, but there’s plenty of horses available for Brumbaugh in the form of Wisconsin recruit Scott Orndoff, Louis Rotunda, Tim Blair and Pat Slagle (all juniors).  One of the Rebs’ key receivers, senior Dylan Boccella, will miss at least seven weeks after sustaining a severe concussion.  The line features seniors J.J. Beggan (Bowling Green recruit), Will French, Jay Moog, Pat Morgan, tight end Anthony Mendocino and junior J.T. Colosimo.

Defensively, French, Beggan, and Moog return on the lines, Morgan, Hart, Syvjw and all-conference selection Jamie Miller and safety Matt Jacobino.  Orndoff, Mendocino, Blair and Rizza round out the defense, which is under the tutelage of new coordinator Jim Feeney.
