Team #2 Greensburg Central Catholic (7)
Written by: David Mika on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010The Centurions easily boast one of the biggest and best offensive lines in the state amongst AA schools – Tyler Alt (6’3, 265), Pat Mahoney (6’1, 270), Joe Sullivan 6’1.5, 295), Bernie Sarra (6’1.5, 320) and Josh Stepoli (6’5, 240). At 278 pounds per man, that’s a lot of beef to go around. GCC does lose rugged RB David Miller (2,500+ rushing yards) and QB Trent Hurley (1,900+ passing yards) and featured WR Evan Marshall, but the Centurions should be able to reload and have success with dual-threat QB Terrence Stepoli (Sr.) or Bon Noble (Jr.). Senior Andy Biros is the top returning rusher and receiver (192 rush yards, 129 receiving yards, 3 total TD). The defense will be anchored by Mahoney (12 sacks, 2 INT), Sarra (2 sacks), LB Jordan Prinkey (2 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries), FS Romulus Marino (4 INT, 4 deflected passes, 2 fumbles recoveries) and sophomore DB Zach Guiser (team-best 8 INT in 2009). Greensburg Central Catholic is 71-13 overall and has played in three WPIAL championship games since the start of the 2003 season.
