Sto-Rox wide receiver Andrew Carswell, one of the top returning wide receivers in the WPIAL’s “AA” classification this year, gave a verbal commitment to Pitt yesterday, according to Rivals.com.
Carswell, a 6’4, 210-pounder, was one of the featured receivers in Sto-Rox’ spread offense last year, snagging 40 passes for 600 yards and six touchdowns. He was also a force defensively, racking up 56 tackles, picking off three passes, and recovering two fumbles.
Carswell becomes the second Viking football player to make a verbal commitment to a Division-1 college this off-season. Quarterback Paul Jones verbally committed to Penn State just after the 2008 season came to a close in December.
Sto-Rox finished 8-2 last season, finishing with a share of the Century Conference championship with Keystone Oaks and Seton-LaSalle. The Vikings were eliminated by Beaver Area in the opening round of the WPIAL playoffs, 43-36.
Pitt recently received a verbal commitment from another Keystone State wide receiver, Bishop McDevitt’s Salath Williams.
