An athlete from a small Beaver County school is a potential Division-1 prospect.
South Side Beaver running back Luke Shaffer has received interest from six Division-1 programs, according to his profile on Rivals.com.
Cincinnati, UCONN, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt and Rutgers have shown interest, but not extended a scholarship offer, to the 5’11, 202-pound senior-to-be. Shaffer’s 40-yard dash time has been clocked at 4.44, according to Rivals.
Shaffer played a significant offensive role for the Rams, completing 3-of-4 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns; running for 831 yards and seven touchdowns on 125 carries (6.65 yds./rush; 92.3 yds./gm.); and caught 13 passes for 151 yards (11.62 yds./rec.) and a touchdown. Defensively, Shaffer contributed 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and three fumble recoveries.
Shaffer topped 100+ rushing yards in four games last year, including a season best 224 yards and three scores in a 34-21 victory against Neshannock.
South Side Beaver, which won WPIAL and PIAA Class “A” titles in 1999, finished 6-4 overall last year, losing to Clairton 61-0 in the opening round of the WPIAL playoffs.
