Some Quick D-10 Notes from 9/9
Written by: Jeremy Ransom on Saturday, September 10th, 2011
Weather played a major factor in tonights action, as 2 games were postponed, and several others saw delays due to lightning. A couple notes:
-I listened to Cambridge Springs @ Cochranton on Cool 101.7 FM while I was at work tonight, so we’ll start there. The game saw an hour and 15 minute delay, but got started around 8:15pm. This was actually a tight game through the first half, but Cochranton broke it open in the 2nd half, scoring 27 unanswered points to roll to a 45-14 win
-Hickory hammered Titusville 56-7, but the score doesn’t do this game justice. Hickory scored 5 TDs on 5 plays and 2 Defensive TDs to take a 49-0 FIRST QUARTER LEAD!!!
-Grove City beat a pretty good Corry team 77-0. All I have to say is ‘WOW.” The Eagles gave perennial D10 AAA powerhouse Cathedral Prep all they could handle last year in the district title game, and look like the top contender again this year. It doesn’t hurt that they returned most of their team, including Wes Phipps, last season’s leading rusher, as well as 171 lb state wrestling runner up(lost to nationally ranked Nathaniel Brown in the PIAA finals).
-Game of the week is postponed until tomorrow night. The North East Grapepickers visit the General McLane Lancers at Sox Harrison Stadium at Edinboro University. This could also be the game of the year for region 4. Last year, General McLane squeaked out a 21-14 win over the ‘Pickers, which eventually decided the region championship. Tomorrow nights game may very well have the same impact on the region.
Thats all for now, more to come this weekend.
