Shady Side Academy QB/DB Reggie Mitchell issues oral declaration to Wisconsin

Written by: on Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

The Shady Side Academy Indians will be one of the teams to keep an eye on in the thick of the WPIAL’s AA classification this coming season.  And helping to lead the way for the blue and gold will be an athlete bound to continue his collegiate football career in Madison, Wis.

Reggie Mitchell, a 6’0, 175-pound quarterback/defensive back combination for Fox Chapel-based Shady Side Academy, issued an oral declaration to the University of Wisconsin today, according to national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com.  The Badgers were the only Division-1 FBS program to offer the Indian senior-to-be.  Rivals reported Mitchell also had received verbal offers from FCS representatives Villanova and Duquesne.

Scout and Rivals also reported Mitchell received interest from programs like Connecticut, Duke, Maryland, Penn State, Pitt and Toledo. Mitchell is the seventh WPIAL prospect to issue a pre-season college declaration in the 2012 recruitng class.

An offensive catalyst returning from an Indian offensive arsenal which averaged 18.4 points per game, Mitchell accounted for more than 1,000 total yards (500+ rushing, 500+ passing) and scored 12 total touchdowns.  Just from the points accumulated from his total touchdowns scored, Mitchell accounted for 39.1 percent of Shady Side Academy’s season scoring output.

The Indians, a representative of the WPIAL’s Allegheny Conference, finished 5-5 overall, posting a four-game winning streak following a disappointing 1-3 start to its season.  SSA was eliminated in the opening round of the WPIAL AA playoffs by eventual runner-up Aliquippa, 41-0.
