In the second game from Heinz Field, we witnessed offense, all of it coming from Pine Richland as they cruised to a 42-7 win over Central Catholic at a soggy Heinz Field.
The opening series saw Central Catholic go three & out and then the fireworks started.
Pine Richland would drive the field on its first series going 5 plays for 80 yards, escorting Jordan Crawford in from 10 yards to make the score 7-0 Rams. Another three & out from Central Catholic would result in another punt. Pine Richland again would drive down the field with ease again, this time, 3 plays for 65 yards in :47 seconds on a touchdown bomb from Jurkovec to Orsini from 48 yards pushing the score to 14-0 and ending the 1st quarter.
Pine Richland would add another late touchdown in the 2nd quarter when DeFrancisis would take a 35 yard pass from Jurkovec with :39 seconds left in the half to make the halftime score 21-0.
Rams Jurkovec would finish the first half 10 for 15 passing for 145 yards with 2 touchdowns.
In the 3rd quarter, Pine Richland would put the game out of reach for good. Adding 2 more touchdowns. A 51 yard touchdown run from Crawford and a 58 touchdown reception from DeFranscisis put the score at 35-0 at the end of the 3rd.
The 4th quarter would see a Central Catholic touchdown late with 1:22 left when Dontre Jones would score from 2 yards out.
The final score would read Pine Richland 42 – Central Catholic 7
Central Catholic coach Terry Totten “You saw a very good football team (Pine Richland), as advertised today, you saw our players battle hard thru the first half and a couple of things did not go our way, but, they pressure you, pressure you, pressure you and they find open lanes and they did. They move the ball very well. I don’t want to take anything away from them, they have a great defense as well, but that offense pressures every gap, you can see what they are capable of doing”
Coach Totten would also go onto say that Rams QB Phil Jurkovec “Checks every box that could be possibly checked, I’ve never seen him rattled. He took a lot of hits today, but he got up and kept directing his football team. He’s got it, he’s a leader, he has big things in his future.
Central Catholic QB Troy Fisher “I think especially for me and all of the guys playing, losses are never easy when we are accustomed to winning”
Pine Richland coach Eric Kasperowicz “Hats off to Central Catholic, they are a great football program, 5th time being here is incredible. They had a good game plan, they gave us some issues early in the game, we had to make adjustmests, but ultimately hats off to these guys, players, incredible senior class. Came out and figured things out & played their butts off. It’s a championship game, it’s 12-0 versus 9-2. They’ve only lost twice, and one previous to us, they are a good football team. They are well coached, they’ve been here 5 in a row, we knew we’d have our work cut-out for us.”
Pine Richland QB Phil Jurkovec was asked if this was the most he was pressured and hit this season. “Maybe this year, they did a nice job. Had a good game plan agains us. Our coaches adjusted, we then knew how to attack them”
