Peters Township enjoyed a winning season for the first time in quite a while. One of the Indians’ top returning players is also a potential Division-1 prospect.

Austin Hancock, a 6’3, 218-pound senior-to-be, has generated interest, but no scholarship offers, from five Division-1 programs, according to his profile on Rivals.com. Alabama, Duke, Maryland, Penn State and Pitt have all shown interest in the Indians’ field general.

In the Indians’ nine-game season in 2009, Hancock put up some solid numbers. He completed 92-of-156 passes for 1,298 yards and 14 touchdowns, adding 372 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Hancock averaged 185 yards of total offense per game (144 passing, 41 rushing). As an offensive unit as a whole, Peters Township averaged 311.1 yards of offense and nearly 25 points per game.

The Indians raced to a 4-0 start, but finished 5-4 overall and failed to qualify for the WPIAL playoffs out of the Great Southern Conference. The 5-4 season was the first winning season for Peters Township since 2003, when the Indians went 8-3 before falling to Blackhawk, 38-7, in the WPIAL “AAA” playoffs.
