The 6-foot, 195-pound quarterback/safety had a big year for the 9-2, Penns Manor Comets. After an opening day loss to Northern Cambria, he helped his team rip off nine straight wins before losing a district playoff game to Bishop McCort.
Ferens led his team in rushing. He rushed for 1,818 yards on 159 carries (11.43 per) and 31 touchdowns. He passed for 595 yards and nine touchdowns.
On defense he had 49 total tackles (32 solo), one sack and two interceptions.
“Danny was a four-year starter for us,” said Packer. “Danny holds the all-time rushing record (5,550) in Indiana County history.”
He had offers from schools like Buffalo, Lehigh University, Duquesne, Harvard, Air Force, Pittsburgh, Penn State, IUP, Slippery Rock and California University.
Ferens is a two-year first team AP All-State team, two-year first team PAFootballnews.com.
“Danny helped turn our program around. He was the leader of our team that reached the 2011 Eastern Finals,” said Packer. “Ferens has a 96-percent grad average and scored 1,660 on the SAT. Not only is he a tremendous athlete but also one who excelled in the classroom.”
