North East, Grove City Claim Region Titles

-Alex Svetz eclipsed Rickie Thompson for 2nd place on North East’s all time rushing list, and Tyler Johnson, the all time leader, surpassed 3,000 yards for his career, as the Grape Pickers clinched the Region 4 title outright with a 42-14 win over Seneca. Svetz rushed for 110 yards and 3 TDs, and also caught a 26 yard TD pass from QB Cody Bailey. Johnson added 150 yards and a score in the Pickers’ win. Seneca RB Joe Hibbler rushed for 172 yards on 18 carries in the Bobcats’ loss.

-Wes Phipps scored 3 times, Foster Reznor and Tyler Dagres each scored twice, and Grove City wrapped up the Region 5 title outright in their 63-21 win over Dubois. Beavers standout QB Sean Sleigh completed 16 of 32 passes for 189 yards and 3 TDs in the loss.

-General McLane ended Girard’s slim playoff hopes with a 48-7 win over the Yellow Jackets. Lancer RB Matt Astorino gained 160 yards and 3 TDs on only 5 carries, and Chad Kulka added a 93 yard TD run in the win.

-East wrapped up their first playoff spot in school history, with a 36-7 win over Ft. Leboeuf. Darion Qualls caught a 67 yard TD pass from Anthony Jordan, and took a handoff 58 yards for another score, and Levonte Ford took a kickoff 70 yards to paydirt in the Warriors win.

-Greenville QB Tyler Gentile completed 16 of 21 passes for 204 yards and 4 TDs in the Trojans’ 36-13 win over Sharon. The win clinches the #3 playoff spot from region 3 for Greenville.

-West Middlesex racked up 411 yards on the ground, and held Linesville to just 86, in a 52-15 rout that gives the Big Red a huge leg up for a region 1 playoff spot. RB Clay Allen rushed for 161 yards on 7 carries and had TD runs of 49, 24, and 70 yards in the win. Linesville will need a win next week over undefeated Sharpsville to make the playoffs.

-Jason Pinkins rushed for 124 yards and 3 TDs, and caught a 51 yard TD pass to lead Farrell to a 40-30 win over Lakeview. The Steelers led 40-6 in the 4th quarter, but the Sailors made it interesting, scoring 24 unanswered points, but it wouldn’t be enough to complete the comeback. Blake Reddick rushed for 165 yards and 2 TDs in the Sailors’ loss. Farrell QB Forest Wested completed 11 of 14 passes for 206 yards and 2 TDs in the Steelers win.

-Youngsville QB Cory Craig completed 8 of 14 passes for 161 yards and 2 TDs, and rushed 11 times for 110 yards and 2 more scores, to lead the Eagles to a 58-6 thrashing of Cochranton. Sam Lucas rushed for 103 yards and 2 TDs, and Jordan Gurdak added 100 yards and a score in the win.

-Cathedral Prep backup QB Billy Fessler completed 7 of 8 passes for 175 yards and 3 TDs, and rushed for 2 more scores to lead the Ramblers to a 63-20 rout of Warren. RB Joey Oduho rushed for 129 yards and 3 scores, and caught another TD in the win. Warren QB Austin Jerman completed 17 of 30 passes for 244 yards and 3 TDs in the loss.

-Mercyhurst Prep’s rushing attack was too much for Union City to handle, as the Lakers rolled to a 49-14 win over the Bears. Prep RB Dwayne Canady rushed for 134 yards and a score, Cornelius Barclay added 120 yards and 2 TDs, and Thomas Higgins picked up 58 yards and 2 more scores in the win.

-Strong Vincent RB Michael Neavins rushed for 154 yards and 2 TDs on 14 carries to lead the Colonels to a 27-10 win over Bradford. The Owls led 10-7 after 3 quarters, but Strong Vincent scored 20 unanswered points to pick up the win. Bradford RB Matt Yurkewicz rushed for 141 yards in the loss.

-Saegertown’s Brock Lojek scored on a 2 yard run, and took an interception back 36 yards for another score, to lead the Panthers to a 35-20 win over Eisenhower. Casey Chapman rushed for 87 yards and 2 TDs in the win. Knights QB Aaron Lundmark completed 9 of 17 passes for 171 yards and 3 TDs, but also threw 3 picks in the loss.

-Meadville rushed for 508 yards as a team, as the Bulldogs pounded Franklin 63-0. Terrance Goodrum rushed for 244 yards and 4 TDs, Artrel Foster added 161 yards and 3 TDs, and FB Fred Epps picked up 99 yards and 2 scores for Meadville in the win.

-Slippery Rock QB Ryan Currie threw for 2 TDs and ran for another to lead the Rockets past Oil City, 27-6. Ben Gaul rushed for a score and caught another, and Sam Furrh caught a 62 yard TD pass in the win.

-Kevin Coatham rushed for 145 yards on 18 carries and a score, and also threw for a score, to lead Maplewood to a 26-6 win over Iroquois. Parrish Brown hauled in a 55 yard pass from QB Matt Desin for the Braves’ only score of the game.

-Harbor Creek QB Austin Griffin hit Lucas Morton for a 7 yard score for the only TD of the game, as the Huskies edged Fairview 6-3.

-Corry QB Nate Smith completed 12 of 18 passes for 203 yards and 2 TDs, and rushed for 2 more, to lead the Beavers to a 48-7 win over Titusville.

-Weston Stafford rushed for 210 yards and 3 TDs on 34 carries to lead Cambridge Springs to a 30-18 win over Imani Christian.

-Northwestern RB Aaron Morley rushed for 128 yards and a score to lead the Wildcats to a 28-0 shutout win over Central Tech. Northwestern held the Falcons to just 103 total yards for the game.

-Gunnar Donati rushed for a score, and caught a Josh Tekac pass for another, to lead Wilmington to a 34-6 win over Warren JFK.

-Moniteau QB Tyler Armagost completed 9 of 14 passes for 171 yards and 3 TDs to lead the Warriors to a 52-8 win over Kennedy Catholic. The Eagles were held to just 52 total yards for the game.

-DeShawn Coleman rushed for 131 yards and 2 TDs to lead Hickory to a 51-12 win over Reynolds.

-Sharpsville remained undefeated, shutting out Conneaut Valley 35-0.

-Next week is the final week of the regular season, and several teams from Class A are still vying for a playoff spot. Games to watch are Linesville @ Sharpsville, Mercer @ West Middlesex, Cambridge Springs @ Iroquois, and in a battle for the region 2 title, Saegertown visits Youngsville.
