North Allegheny OT Patrick Kugler up to 13 verbal D-1 offers

Written by: on Friday, July 29th, 2011

North Allegheny, fresh off its first PIAA AAAA football championship since 1990, aren’t experiencing a bare cupboard entering the 2011 season.  The Tigers return a total of 10 starters or key contributors from last year’s championship team.

One of those key pieces is returning offensive lineman Pat Kugler, an imposing junior who has generated the most known scholarship offers to date of any member of Pennsylvania’s 2013 recruiting class.

Kugler, a 6’5, 265-pound offensive tackle for North Allegheny, holds a total of 13 Division-1 verbal scholarship offers, according to national recruiting service Rivals.com.  Offering parties include Boise State, Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida State, Miami (FL), North Carolina, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee and UTEP.

Pat Kugler is the younger brother of Rob Kugler, who played tight end and defensive end for North Allegheny last season before graduating and continuing his football career at Purdue.  Both Pat and Rob are sons of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line coach Sean Kugler.

One of three returning starters from North Allegheny’s offensive line which averaged 247 pounds per man last season, Kugler helped to pave the way for a rugged and physical Tiger offensive attack which averaged 345.1 yards (270.8 rush, 74.3 pass) and 31.6 points per game.  The Tigers’ offensive arsenal included five backs with season rushing totals between 245 to 2,485 rushing yards and a 1,000-yard passer, scoring 63 total offensive touchdowns (50 rushing, 13 passing).  The 506 points scored by the Tigers last season established a new school record.

NA finished 15-1 overall last season, bringing the black and gold’s overall record since the start of the 2009 season to 24-3 (.889).  The Tigers’ seasons have at least reached the juncture of the WPIAL AAAA semifinals three times since 2006.
