The Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils took the Great Southern Conference by storm last season, winning the school’s first football conference championship in several years and also a perfect regular season mark. In the coming year, D-1 recruit Arthur Goldberg and the Blue Devil key returnees from that 10-1 team will look to do more damage.
Goldberg, a 6’4, 270-pound defensive tackle for Mt. Lebanon, issued an oral declaration to the University of Wisconsin today, according to national recruiting services Rivals.com and Scout.com. The Badgers were one of eight verbal offers received by the Mt. Lebanon lineman, including Cincinnati, Connecticut, Indiana, Pitt, Syracuse, Temple and West Virginia.
Goldberg also received interest from programs like Boston College, Illinois, Michigan State, North Carolina State and Purdue, as per Rivals.
One of seven Blue Devils selected to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s 2010 Great Southern all-conference team last season, Goldberg was one of three linemen (joining OL Tim Cwalina and TE Paul Lang) and was one of two Blue Devil underclassmen selected to the team, joining 1,900-yard running back Luke Hagy. Goldberg is the sixth WPIAL prospect to issue a pre-season college declaration in the 2012 recruitng class.
Goldberg was part of a Mt. Lebanon defensive unit (including reserves) which allowed an average of 15.8 points per game, holding five of 11 opponents to 14 points or less, with zero shutouts. The Blue Devils were eliminated in the WPIAL AAAA quarterfinals by Woodland Hills, 29-22, in overtime.
