Mountaineers Swat Yellow Jackets

Written by: on Saturday, September 15th, 2012

BERLIN– In this 56-8 victory, Berlin dispersed the Ferndale swarm with ease. An all-around showing from their high flying offense was to be expected, but in this one sided affair, it was the explosive defense that really left a sting.

Collin Stoltzfus (DL) and Bryce Fotchman (LB) combined for a respectable 14 tackles. Joining this hard hitting tandem was Junior Stew Trulick (DL) who punished Ferndale Quarterback Chad Eisenhuth with three sacks on the night. It was this shutdown style defense that proved to be just too much for Eisenhuth and Running Back Carlos Mason who desperately tried to create any kind of motivational spark.

When looking for something to spark the Mountaineers, look no further than Senior Running Back Drew Glotfelty who went on to trudge his way to 210 yards rushing. Meanwhile starting QB Blake Miller tacked on an additional 94 yards. However, it was Miller’s 37 yard toss to TE Luke Sprowls that really triggered the beginning of the end.

Not to be overshadowed by the headlining Berlin frontrunners was Freshman Running Back Braden Focthman who reserved his table for six to round off the scoring in the 4th Quarter. I met up with a modest Fotchman following the game.

“Our team is looking good so far. We just can’t let anything get to our heads. As for me, I just have to keep playing with intensity.”

It is that clear showing of intensity that will help carry the Mountaineers throughout the rest of the season. With a notable game coming up against rival North Star in the coming two weeks, the intensity will have to be not only present as Fotchman mentioned, but pulsating throughout the Berlin Mountaineers on both sides of the ball.
