For the second consecutive season, the Montour Spartans have a player who will continue his collegiate football career in the Mid-American Conference.
Tyler Haddock, a 6’0, 300-pound defensive tackle for the Spartans, issued a verbal declaration to Kent State Sunday, according to national recruiting service Rivals.com.
The Golden Flashes were the only verbal scholarship offer Haddock had received in his recruiting process, but interest was extended from many, many schools across the country. Programs who showed interest in Haddock included Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Miami (FL), North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Southern Methodist, TCU, UAB and West Virginia, among others.
Haddock is the second Spartan player to issue a verbal declaration to a Division-1 program in the 2013 recruiting class. Offensive lineman Matt Barone picked Connecticut March 19.
Haddock was a part of a Montour defensive unit, including both first string and reserves, which allowed an average of 17.1 points per game last season, limiting seven of 15 opponents to 14 points or less, with one shutout. Montour finished 12-3 overall, winning the WPIAL AAA championship and advancing to the PIAA AAA semifinals opposite District 3 champion and eventual PIAA runner-up Bishop McDevitt.
