The Montour Spartans’ potential Division-1 football talent is not just limited to its 2012 class which includes QB Dillon Buechel, RB Julian Durden and OL/DL Domenic Martinelli. One of the Spartans’ top returning defensive linemen, Tyler Haddock, will only be a junior this fall, but he’s already attracting quite a bit of Division-1 attention.
Haddock, a 6’1, 275-pound defensive tackle for Montour, has received interest, but no verbal scholarship offers, from nine Division-1 programs, according to national recruiting service Rivals.com. Interested parties include Akron, Cincinnati, Maryland, Miami (FL), North Carolina, Ohio State, UAB, UCLA and West Virginia.
A key returner from Montour’s WPIAL AAA finalist team a season ago, Haddock had a productive sophomore season for the yellow and black, amassing 40 tackles (18 solo, 11 TFL) and seven sacks. Haddock was part of a Spartan defensive unit, including reserves, which allowed an average of 16 points per game. Montour held eight of 13 opponents to 14 points or less in 2010.
Montour finished 12-1 overall in 2010, reaching the WPIAL AAA championship game for the second time since 2007.
