Ligonier advances to D6 2A semifinal

It wasn’t always pretty but the Ligonier Valley Rams advanced to the District Six Class AA semifinal with a 50-26 win over the West Shamokin Wolves. On the way to the victory the Rams rolled up 520 yards of offense behind some standout performances.
Aaron Tutino scored the first of his 4 touchdowns when he pulled in an 11 yard pass from versatile senior QB/WR Jackson Daugherty late in the first quarter. Tutino then pulled in 2 more scores from John Caldwell in the second quarter to make it 20-0 Rams midway through the second quarter.
West Shamokin got on the board shortly thereafter on a 1 yard run by Tyler Lightcap. The Rams came right back with another score from Caldwell to Tutino and a short touchdown run by Aaron Sheeder to push the lead back to 32-6. West Shamokin battled back with a score with just 5 seconds left before halftime on another Lightcap run to make the score 32-12 at the
However, the Rams would score three straight touchdowns coming out of the locker room to put the game away. The scores came on a 14 yard run by Daugherty, a touchdown pass from Caldwell to Daugherty and another Sheeder run. West Shamokin scored two late TDs to set the 50-26 final.
Sheeder led the ground attack for Ligonier with 126 yards on 21 carries and two scores. John Caldwell finished 12 of 14 for 202 yards and 4 touchdowns. Tutino had 8 catches for 178 yards and 4 scores. Daugherty chipped in with 233 yards of total offense. Joey Dubics led the defense with 10 tackles. Cole Peters chipped in 7 tackles including two for a loss. Nathan Burns had 5 tackles, a sack and a pass defensed.
The Rams will host Cambria Heights in a District 6 AA Semifinal Friday at 7 PM at Weller Field
