The Ligonier Valley Rams checked another box on their list of goals for the season by defeating
Cambria Heights 39-14 and advancing to the District 6-AA championship game. After
successfully defending their Heritage Conference and Appalachian Bowl championships earlier
this season, the Rams will try to defend their District crown against Bishop McCort Saturday at
7 PM at Mansion Park in Altoona.
As they have most of the season, the Rams dynamic duo of Jackson Daugherty and Aaron
Tutino led the way for Ligonier. Daugherty had 6 catches for 135 yards and 3 scores, went 4 for
4 passing for 69 yards and a score and rushed for 66 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown.
Tutino caught 7 balls for 101 yards and a touchdown and ran for 41 yards on 3 carries.
The Rams scored first on their second possession on a 5 yard pass from John Caldwell to
Daugherty to take a 6-0 lead after the conversion pass failed. Once the second quarter began,
the Rams hit the Highlanders with back to back big plays. First Caldwell and Daugherty
connected again for a 56 yard score and then Daugherty hit Tutino for a 57 yard touchdown.
After Cambria Heights converted a Rams fumble for a touchdown to make it 19-7, Ligonier
went down the field in 39 seconds and found the end zone on the last play of the half with a 26
yard touchdown pass from Caldwell to Daugherty to make it 26-7 LV at halftime.
If there was any doubt about the outcome, Sullivan Schueltz removed it on the second play of
the third quarter with a 40 yard interception return for a touchdown to make it 32-7. Daugherty
added a one yard touchdown run and Tyler Trybus scored for Heights from to yards out to set
the final at 39-14.
Joey Dubics led the Rams on defense with 10 tackles. Nathan Burns had a huge sack to go
with two quarterback pressures and a tackle for loss. Aaron Sheeder and Daugherty had
interceptions to go along with Schueltz’s pick six.
Ligonier Valley will face Bishop McCort next Saturday at Altoona’s Mansion Park for the District 6 2A Title.
