Greensburg Central Catholic makes final 8

CONCORD HIGH SCHOOL AND SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN HIGH SCHOOL WIN ADIDAS 7ON7 NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

Both schools advance to National Championship in Atlanta July 30-31

SOUTH BEND, IN – (June 21, 2008) Concord High School (Elkhart, IN) and Sacred Heart-Griffin High School (Springfield, IL) won their respective brackets at the adidas 7on7 Notre Dame Regional Tournament, advancing to the National Championship in Atlanta July 30-31. In the tournament finals, John Lantz quarterbacked Sacred-Heart Griffin to a 40-12 victory over Jacksonville High School (Jacksonville, IL) and Wide Receiver JaVontae Hence led Concord to a 21-20 win over St. Joseph High School (South Bend, IN). Both final games were played on the iconic field of Notre Dame Stadium.

The adidas 7on7 Notre Dame tournament featured over 40 Midwest high schools. The final eight teams were Concord High School (Elkhart, IN), Greensburg Central Catholic High School (Greensburg, PA), Jacksonville High School (Jacksonville, IL), LaPorte High School (LaPorte, IN), Lowell High School (Lowell, IN), two teams from Sacred Heart-Griffin High School (Springfield, IL), and St. Joseph High School (South Bend, IN). “The adidas 7on7 is the perfect opportunity for us to work on our offense and defense,” said Sacred Heart-Griffin High School Coach Ken Leonard. “We throw the ball a lot and this tournament has helped our kids with their route-running and coverage skills.”

More than 200 teams across the nation will compete in the adidas 7on7 Football Tournament, which has become a proving ground for young football players and a hot bed for college scouts. The tournament allows skill position players to refine their timing and teamwork before their high school season begins and helps players stay in shape year round through competitive playing and conditioning.

“The competition at the adidas 7on7 will most definitely help us as we prepare for the 2008 football season,” said Sacred Heart-Griffin Quarterback John Lantz. “Playing the final game at Notre Dame Stadium really motivates us to keep working hard as we prepare for the National Championship in July.”

The Notre Dame tournament was the second of five adidas 7on7 regional tournaments. Subsequent regional competitions will take place at University of Central Florida (June 28-29), Texas A&M University (July 10-12) and the University of Tennessee (July 18-19). The top two teams from each region will advance to the national championship in Atlanta, Ga. July 30-31.
