The Gateway Gators seem to always have a few Division-1 football prospects in their fold, and 2012 will be no exception, as a future member of the Pac-12 Conference will be piloting their offense.
Thomas Woodson, a 6’2, 190-pound dual-threat quarterback for Gateway, issued a verbal declaration to Arizona Monday, according to national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com.
Woodson also had an offer from Bowling Green and had generated interest from programs at different points in his recruiting process like Boston College, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, Toledo, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others.
In helping lead Gateway to the WPIAL AAAA semifinals opposite North Allegheny, Woodson amassed 1,492 yards of total offense (1,184 passing, 308 rushing), completing 63-of-106 passes (59.4 percent) and averaging 4.7 yards per carry on 67 carries. He threw for 100+ yards in six games, including a career-best 334 yards in a convincing victory over Greater Latrobe.
Gateway finished 9-3 overall.
