Gateway defeats Woodland Hills, moves to Semifinals to play arch rival McKeesport

Gateway got the ball to start the game and they wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Brady Walker was 4 of 4 and threw for 59 yards. The drive was finished on a 1 yard run by Freshman Derrick Davis.

Late in the first quarter Davis scored his second touchdown of the game on a 48 yard run. That made the score 13-0 with 46 seconds in the first.

Woodland Hills went 3 and out on the following possession giving the ball back to Gateway. Gateway made it 19-0 on another big strike when Brady Walker connected with Courtney Jackson for a 73 yard touchdown.

Woodland Hills got back in the game when Brady Walker fumbled the ball, eventually the Wolverines found the end zone when Daniel Jones found Michael Roman for an 11 yard touchdown.

Later in the quarter Brady Walker threw another touchdown this time to  Tui Faumuina-Brown. Woodland Hills returned a kick before half making the score 26-14.

Brady Walker had a solid first half he was 16 of 23 for 243 yards. He also had 55 yards rushing. I asked Coach Hale after the game what it is like to have a player like Walker who said, “It’s amazing to have a guy like that we had a lot of guys step up week to week. He’s a leader and that’s what we ask of our Quarterbacks.”

After a unsuccessful first drive for Woodland Hills, Gateway again got the ball back. Brady Walker continued his brilliance when he finished off a drive on a 7 yard run. That made the score 33-14 early in the third.

Woodland Hills came up with a huge answer on a 97 yard kick return by Rodney Dennard. Later on in the quarter Woodland Hills got within 5 when Daniel Jones connected with Naszhir Taylor for a 53 yard touchdown.

Gateway made it 40-28 on a third touchdown run by Derrick Davis this one 7 yards out. That was the final score of the game. Coach Hale said, “it was a hard tough game they were battling back and forth, and we came out with a huge win and we continue to play. That’s all we ask to 4 quarters every week.”

Next week Gateway will play arch rival McKeesport for the right to advance to Heinz Field. I asked Coach Hale what he thinks of McKeesport and he said, “they’re going to come and play they that every week, every Friday regardless of the opponent, so we can expect that from them and we gotta just stick to the game plan and continue to work.”

Brady Walker finished the game 26 of 39 for 386 yards and had 71 yards rushing he had 2 passing touchdowns and one rushing. Derrick Davis also had a big game who ran for 109 yards on 13 carries. He also had 4 catches for 38 yards.
