One of the Black Hills Conference’s top returning quarterbacks has been the subject of some Division-1 interest and attention.
Tanner Garry, the 6’2 1/2, 185-pound field general at Fort Cherry High School, has received interest, but no verbal offers, from a combined eight Division-1 FBS and FCS programs, according to national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com. Interested parties in the Rangers’ senior-to-be include Akron, Buffalo, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Penn State, Pitt, Temple and Youngstown State.
Garry was the man at the reins of a Fort Cherry offensive arsenal that averaged 258.6 yards of offense (134.9 passing, 123.7 rushing) and 26.5 points per game. Garry connected on 73-of-127 passes (57.5 percent) for 1,319 yards and 15 touchdowns against seven interceptions in his junior season. He also added 183 rushing yards and a trio of touchdowns on just 17 carries, an average of more than 10.7 yards per rush attempt.
For his career, Garry has thrown for 2,419 yards and 27 touchdown passes and owns a career varsity starting record of 12-8.
Fort Cherry finished 5-5 in 2010, reaching the WPIAL Class A playoffs before falling in the opening round to Bishop Canevin, 24-16.
