Erie Cathedral Prep RB Justin Wiley generating D-1 interest

Written by: Josh Funk on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

In winning 11 games last year, Erie Cathedral Prep boasted an imposing 1-2 punch in its backfield – senior quarterback Shyquawn Pullium and junior running back Justin Wiley.

Pullium will continue playing football at Penn State. It appears Wiley will also be following the Division-1 path.

Cathedral Prep’s 5’11, 185-pound senior-to-be has received interest, but no offers yet, from seven Division-1 programs, according to his profile on Rivals.com. Akron, Iowa, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, Toledo and West Virginia have all shown interest in Wiley, according to Rivals.

It is safe to say that Wiley might be the top returning running back in all of District 10 this year. His rushing and receiving yardage tallied during the ’09 season checked in at a combined 1,951 total yards and 34 touchdowns scored.

Wiley ran for 1,456 yards on 160 carries (9.1 yds./rush) and added 495 yards on 21 receptions (23.6 yds./rec.). He scored 210 of the Ramblers’ 598 points last season, accounting for 35.1 percent of Cathedral Prep’s scoring output.

Wiley surpassed 100+ rushing yards in a game six times, including a 277-yard performance against St. Joseph’s (NY) and had eight games with two or more rushing touchdowns.

The Ramblers, who averaged 265 yards rushing and 42.7 points per game last year, won the school’s 16th District 10 football championship (the school’s first in the “AAA” classification) and reached the PIAA “AAA” quarterfinals, falling to West Allegheny, 36-21.
