DuBois remains undefeated with week 8 win over Warren

Written by: on Sunday, October 21st, 2012

The trend continues for the DuBois Beavers as the varsity football team defeated the Warren Dragons 39-13 on Friday.

Warren had a 6-1 record coming into this game and they were a possible threat to the Beavers. Warren left the game with a record they thought would never be.

Warren put up the first points after a 2:50 drive from their own 24 yard line. Senior RB Garrett Brown made himself known to the Dragons with an 89 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Brown’s TD made the score 7-6 DuBois after a missed extra point.

Senior RB Shane Marshall gave DuBois another touchdown making the score 13-7 DuBois with 4:33 left in the first quarter. Junior DB TJ Troup intercepted the ball allowing DuBois to end the first quarter with possession. He later commented “It was like slow-motion. I kept thinking CATCH IT, CATCH IT, CATCH IT!!! I didn’t get very far on the return but it was still pretty cool!”

Both teams found the end zone in the last minute before halftime. Warren tied the game 13 all but DuBois went to the locker room up 19-13 after a 49 yard touchdown pass from sophomore QB Gabe French to Brown.

In the first half alone Brown had 14 carries for 84 yards averaging 6 yards each time. French threw 8 complete passes out of 11 for a total of 75 yards.

In the third quarter, DuBois’ Marshall was the only player from either team to score a touchdown. He put up 6 more points to make the score 26-13 DuBois.

Brown took it to the house twice in the fourth quarter. He ran the ball 74 yards for 6 points with 8:32 on the clock. Brown drove 1 yard through the center of the line for a touchdown to make the final score 39-13 DuBois.

French finished the night 11-17 passes complete for 112 yards. Brown ended the night with 433 all purpose yards. He ran the ball 32 times for 275 yards and scored 2 rushing touchdowns. Brown caught 3 passes for 63 yards and scored a touchdown receiving. He also returned a kickoff 89 yards resulting in another touchdown.

If the Beavers stay in this pattern they can find themselves with a possible home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. DuBois finishes the regular season at home with games vs. Meadville and Slippery Rock.
