District 6 Report Week 5

Written by: on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

State College Little Lions (5-0) : Week 5 – (21-13 Win) at District 3 Harrisburg (4A 2-3).

This Week at home the District 3 Cedar Cliff Colts (4A 3-2) visit.

No common opponents at this point. The Colts are Riding a 3 Game Winning Streak after opening losses @ Red Land (4-1) and Bishop McDevitt (5-0). State College mixes it up with District 3 Mid-Penn.

Central Mountain Wildcats (3-2) : The Mid-Season Measuring Stick for the Wildcats was Week 5 at District 9 Dubois (4A 3-2). The Wildcats didn’t measure up with a (14-24 Loss). This Week at Hollidaysburg (3A 4-1). Hosting 4A (2-2) D3 Harrisburg Week 9.

Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers (4-1) : Week 5 – Solid Victory (49-7) over (3A 2-3) Indian Valley. This Week at (4A 3-2) Central Mountain. The Golden Tigers finish up the Regular Season with 4 (4A) Schools. The Top Spot in District 6 3A appears to belong to Hollidaysburg as they have dispatched 2 of the other 3 in this group. The last being Johnstown (see below).

Lost Big to (4A 5-0) State College Week 1 . Good Win over HD Woodson out of DC.

Johnstown Trojans (3-2) : Extremely difficult to get a handle on, they do not play a school larger than 2A in the Regular Season.

Tyrone Golden Eagles (4-1) : Week 5 – Shut-Out a reeling (2A 2-3) Bald Eagle Area team. This Week another Inter-District Match-Up at District 9 (3A 4-1) St. Mary’s. The Flying Dutch – 3 Shut-Outs and 25 points given up this year. Déjà vu ? For the Golden Eagles, 1-Point Loss at District 9 (3A 4-1) Clearfield Week 4. Week 10 they host the (2A 5-0) Scarlet Dragons, (see below), if both Teams maintain their steam this could be interesting.

Forest Hills Rangers (5-0) : Week 5 – (60 – Zip) Win at Cambria Heights. This Week Big Rivalry Game at the (2A 3-2) Central Cambria Red Devils. The Rangers have beat (3A 3-2) Johnstown 27-21 and thumped (1A 3-2) Upstart Bishop Guilfoyle.

Central Martinsburg Scarlet Dragons (5-0) : Week 5 – (34-14) Win at (2A 1-4) Huntingdon. This Week (2A 0-5) Lewistown. Earlier this Season : took out (3A 2-3) Indian Valley by 15. Shut-Out (3A 3-2) 3A Bellefonte. Last 3 Games which includes Tyrone will tell the story.

Central Cambria Red Devils (3-2) : Week 5 – (53-22) win over (2A 0-5) Bedford. This week hosting (2A 5-0) Forest Hills. Central Cambria took out Tyrone last year in the District 6 2A Semi-Finals before losing to then 2A Bishop McCort (see Bishop McCort below) 28-21 in OT in the District 6 2A Finals.

Bishop McCort Crushers (5-0) : Week 5 – (38-34) Win at Rival (2A 2-3) Richland Twp. This Week at the (2A 1-4) Westmont-Hilltop. The Hilltoppers average margin of defeat is 5-Points. That average will go up this week. The Crushers have a Very Large Bulls-Eye on their back and Johnstown would like nothing better than to trip them up in 2 weeks.

Portage Mustangs (5-0) : Week 5 – (34-7) Win over (2A 2-3) Chestnut Ridge. This Week at (1A 0-5) Ferndale. Week 9 at (4-0) 2A D5 North Star, there is no doubt this will be an Excellent Game.

Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils (4-1) : Week 5 – (46-0) Win at (1A 3-2) Southern Huntingdon. This Week hosting (1A 5-0) Moshannon Valley, another Big Rivalry. (see Moshannon Valley below). Week 1 Lose at Main Rival (2A 4-1) Tyrone. Week 9 at (1A 4-1) Mount Union.

Purchase Line Red Dragons (5-0) : Week 5 – (34-15) Win at (1A 2-3) Northern Cambria. This Week Main Rival (1A 1-4) Marion Center. The Colts game was not as close as the score indicated. The Red Dragons limited Indiana County’s Leading Rusher A. Paronish to 33 Yards. Paronish had 603 yards in 4 games coming in.

Moshannon Valley Black Knights (5-0) : 8 Point Win (21-13) at home against (1A 1-4) Tussey Mountain. This Week at (1A 4-1) Bellwood-Antis. This game will clear up the District 6 1A picture somewhat.

Mount Union Trojans (4-1) : Week 5 : (46-19) win over (1A 1-4) Juniata Valley. This week at (1A 0-5) Williamsburg. They will be gunning for the Blue-Devils Week 9. Another Play-Off Sleeper.

Homer Center Wildcats (4-1) : Week 5 – Appears to have applied the Coup de grâce to the Blairsville Bobcats (1A 3-2) with a (41-3) pounding. This Week they entertain the (1A 1-4) United Lions. The Wildcats have some work to do : Laurel Valley (see below) week 7.

Laurel Valley Rams (4-1) : Week 5 – (26-21) Win at Main Rival (2A 2-3) Ligonier Valley. This Week the (1A 2-3) Northern Cambria Colts at home. Only lose 3-Points at home to (5-0) Purchase Line.

Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders (3-2) : Week 5 (23-12) over (2A 3-2) Penn Cambria. This week at (2A 0-5) Bedford. They play 2 – 1A Schools during the Regular Season. (2A 3-2) Central Cambria week 7, (3A 3-2) Johnstown week 9, (1A 3-2) Bishop Carroll week 10.

Bishop Carroll Huskies ( 3-2) : Week 5 (40-35) over (2A 1-4) Westmont Hilltop. This week at (3A 3-2) Johnstown. Win over (2A 3-2) Central Cambria week 1. (2A 5-0) Forest Hills week 8, At (1A 3-2) Bishop Guilfoyle week 10.

Blairsville Bobcats (3-2) : Week 5 – (3-41) lose at home to the (1A 4-1) Homer City Wildcats. This Week at (1A 3-2) Penns Manor. This should be a “Get Well” game for the Bobcats, but. The Bobcats other lose was to (1A 5-0) Purchase Line in O.T. Host the (1A 4-1) Laurel Valley Rams week 10, this game could have play-off seeding implications.
