The Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils defeated the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs by a score of 40-20 Friday at Memorial Stadium.
The Devils led 14-0 in the second, but Claysburg threatened to make it, scoring on a Ty Hagen 33-yard touchdown pass. But that was until B-A quarterback ShawnWolfe fired off two unanswered touchdowns, the a 30-yard completion to Ian McFarland and the second a 1-yard sneak at the goal line.
“Our game plan was to pound the ball and stop Ty Hagen,” said BA Trentin Whaley.
Hagen finished with 146 yards passing but completed just 9 of 21 throws.
“We forced them to pass by stopping their run game,” said lineman Nate Grimme.
C-K ran for 166 yards, and Hagen was limited to 14 yards on 4 attempts.
The Devils went up 21-7 by halftime and led 28-7 in the third quarter.
Bellwood’s high powered offense was too much for the Bulldogs to handle, putting up 451 all-purpose yards compared to a mere 293 for the Bulldogs.
Blue Devil senior wide receiver Ian McFarland had a huge game with 2 interceptions on defense and three catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball.
Wolfe accounted for 102 yards on the ground and passed for 115, while Thor Schmittle added another 92 yards rushing.
“Our line all goes over 6 feet and 250 pounds,” Grimme said. “And everyone back is a senior except me. It;s definitely beneficial to have experience on our line.”
B-A is back on the road to play Moshannon Valley Friday.
