Clearfield Throttles BEA

Written by: on Saturday, October 20th, 2012

“He’s just one of those special athletes you don’t see very often,” BEA coach Jack Tobias said. “He’s not just an athletic kid, he’s a big, strong physical kid too. ”

He was talking about Christian Lezzer, the junior quarterback for Clearfield who led his team to a 49-8 win over Bald Eagle Area.  And all he did this foggy night in Wingate was account for 338 yards of offense, two touchdowns and two sacks.  All in the first half, most in the first quarter.  And it didn’t take long.

Lezzer took the first snap at the Bison 45, broke right and sprinted 41 yards to the Eagles 13.  Tyler Stratton, who had a respectable night himself, took the next snap the remaining distance.  Spencer Herrington kicked one of his  7 points after to give Clearfield the 7-0 lead.

BEA would go three and out punting to the Bison 10 and Lezzer capitalized hitting Trey Jordon for a 75 yard pass play that set the Bison up at the three.  Stratton plowed into the endzone and just like that it was 14-0.

On the next Clearfield drive Lezzer threw to Dylan Graham for 35 yards. Grahan made one of the nicest catches I’ve seen this year laying himself out in full stride for the catch.  A 30 yard run from Lezzer and a 2 yard score from Stratton gives Clearfield the 21-0 lead.  Lezzer would score from 3 yards out one play into the 2nd quarter to up the lead to 28-0.

“Our defense did a great job tonight. They controlled the line.”  said Bison coach Tim Janocko.  Coach was being kind. The Bison defense held the Eagles to negative 13 yards of offense allowing only 1 BEA first down in the first half.  The Bison scored from all over the field.  Their 5th score came on an 84 yard td strike to Trey Jordan.  Bad Field position? No problem.  Starting at their own 1/2 yard line the Bison drove 99 yards, this time on the back of Stratton for their 6th and what would be the first squads last touchdown of the night.  Seth Ford would close out the scoring on the night for Clearfield.
