Class A preview-Cardinal Weurl North Catholic Trojans (7) 15-0Written by: Billy Splain on Thursday, December 12th, 2013
“What we’ve done in the past is nothing different than what we have to do on Friday” said Head Coach Bob Ravenstahl. “It’s just another game”.
The Trojan skipper didn’t think it would get this far. “Heck, to start the year I was thinking we’d like to get to Heinz (field) but it all came together and here we go” said Rossi.
Keys to Victory on Offense:
-Run the ball. It’s going to be no secret here. The Trojans are a running team. Quarterback P.J. Fulmer starts the attack with nearly 1,100 yards and 18 scores, all that while missing a few games early on with injury. He runs the option very well. And when he gives the ball up look for Jr. rb Jerome Turner who also has rushed for 1,250 yards on the season. “We both like to run the ball, a LOT. This could be the fastest state title game in history” said coach Ravenstahl when asked how he expects to prepare for the Blue Devils
-Control the line of scrimmage. The Trojans line isn’t huge, but it’s disciplined, fast and smart. They block well and can lead their running backs down field in a hurry.
Keys. to Victory on Defense:
-Stop all everything running back Brandon Yescavage who has run for over 2,500 yards. “They’re very big up front on offense. We’re going to have to be very disciplined on defense. Fill the gaps and find a way through. He’s a down hill runner and I don’t think we’ve seen a runner as good this year” said Rossi.
