Clairton WR/DB Trenton Coles receives D-1 attention

The Clairton Bears have enjoyed the benefits of not only having great football teams these last several years, but also some notable Division-1 talent like Kevin Weatherspoon (Pitt) or Desimon Green (Texas Tech).
Trenton Coles may just be the next Bear to go D-1.
Coles, a 6’3, 173-pound senior to be at Clairton, holds a verbal offer from Pitt and has received interest, but no offers, from 10 other Division-1 programs, according to national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com. Interested parties include Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The #2 receiver in a Clairton aerial assault that averaged more than 117 yards per game in 2010, Coles accounted for 363 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He also saw some action as a rusher in the Bears’ multi-faceted rushing attack and also was a fixture in the defensive backfield for one of Clairton’s most statistically dominant defenses in the last seven seasons. The Bears held their 16 opponents in 2010 to a total of 66 points (4.1 points per game) and posting an impressive 10 shutouts.
Clairton finished 16-0 last season, winning the program’s second consecutive PIAA A championship over Riverside, 36-30. Coles was part of a Clairton team which scored a school-record 746 points and became the seventh WPIAL team to finish a season with a perfect 16-0 record.
