Central Catholic CB Dom Dodson chooses Columbia to continue football/education

Written by: on Saturday, May 12th, 2018

Central Catholic DB Dom Dodson  started for the Vikings last year, and this year will be his second. Last year he took a visit to the BIG APPLE  and Columbia University to watch the Lions play Penn. This year he went back for Junior day and both must have made an impression on each other.

Dodson got his first college offer, from Columbia, on March 6, and it didn’t take much longer to decide that Columbia was to be his next home.

I wanted to commit now because Columbia is truly everything I want in a school, I didn’t see the need to continue the process and jeopardize missing out on such a fantastic opportunity.”

Central Catholic DB Dom Dodson made his college choice today via twitter:

I spoke with Dom and asked him why he chose Columbia:

“I chose Columbia because it checks all of the boxes for me personally. I love the location, the coaching staff, as well as the talented team itself! Not to mention the prestige of the school and it’s academics!”

Academics should be important for the talented DB, but not a problem as he was a member of the WesternPAFootball.net All Academic Gold team, awarded to those who held a 4.0 or higher average while playing football.

My biggest influence at Columbia is Coach Todd Gilcrist. He was the first coach to start recruiting me as well as the first coach to offer me, and that really meant a lot to me. We’re both really excited going forward about the connection.

My parents are 100% supportive of my decision, they are big believers of “prepare for the next 40 years, not the next 4” and we believe that Columbia will be able to set me up for a very bright future after college.

They are getting a dedicated and hardworking player. I’ve never been the biggest or fastest kid, but I rely heavily on my technique when I play. Coming from Central Catholic, they can expect a well rounded, coachable player.

I really have no preference on what position I will play at the next level. I’m willing to play wherever they see best fits for me on defense and special teams. Whatever position the coaching staff wants me to play to better the team, I will.

I am committing early because I truly know this is the place for me to be for the next phase of my education. As well as the fact that I want to focus all of my time and effort this upcoming season on helping my current program, Central Catholic, on returning to the prestige of being state champions. My teammates and I have unfinished business ahead in 2018.

“Throughout my journey none of my success would have been possible without the help of multiple adult figures in my life and I would like to personally thank them.”
