Beavers Ground Chucks 49-7 for Week 3 Win

grantweek32013With a game time temperature of 55 degrees and stiff breeze blowing across the the field and all the fans bundled up in the stands at E. J. Mansell Stadium Friday night, it was clear that it was a great fall evening for high school football in DuBois. This game was the 99th meeting between the DuBois Beavers and the Punxsutawney Chucks with DuBois having a record of  62-33-3 in the series and winning 11 of the last 15. With both schools just a mere 20 miles apart this is a rivalry to last to the ends of time.

DuBois got on the board within the first minute of play with a touchdown by Junior WR Bryson Paulinellie. As the clock ticked over to 11:00 minutes, Punxsy was down 7-0, not the way they planned to start the game. The Chucks used 2 of their first half time-outs within 5 minutes of each other in the first quarter.  Junior RB Devin Clark put up 6 more on the board for DuBois with 6:29 to go in the first.  After two successful PATs from Senior K Josh Hnat, the Beavers were up 14-0.

The Beavers would put up 3 more TDs before halftime. The first one was scored by Junior RB Chad O’Donnell at 10:29 in the 2nd quarter. A fumble recovery by  Senior OL/DL Tyler Fleeger set up the Beavers next TD scored by Junior WR Cole Kriner at 9:34 in the 2nd after he received a pass by Paulinellie who also plays QB from time to time. Hnat hit the exrta point to give DuBois a 28-0 lead. Junior QB Gabe French then hit Paulinellie on a pass for 6 more digits and the 34-0 lead. The Beavers were up 35-0 at the half after yet another PAT by Hnat.

DuBois scored 35 unanswered points in the first half with 4 different players. With the mercy rule in effect the Chucks were already down and out before they even got started.

DuBois’ Clark found the end zone again with 5:21 in the 3rd quarter to to give the Beavers a 42-0 lead after Hnat hit the extra point. The Chucks got on the board 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter to end the possibility of a shut-out from their arch-rivals. Chad O’Donnell answered back with his second TD of the night to wrap the game up with the final score of 49-7 after Senior K Isaac Kunselman made the PAT.

With a record of 2-1, DuBois hosts Oil City next week.
