Team # 6 Central Valley (7) 0-0

What could Central Valley do for an encore in 2011? The Warriors, a first-year school which was the product of a merger between Monaca and Center high schools, posted a 10-4 record and won the WPIAL AAA championship last season before being eliminated by Erie Cathedral Prep in the PIAA AAA quarterfinals one week later, 31-21.
Central Valley was a hard-hitting, physical bunch on offense and defense, and the Carolina blue and white return defensive starters in Austin David (78 tackles, 7 sacks), Zach Fossett (69 tackles, 6 sacks) and Chad Phillis (50 tackles, 9 sacks). David was a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette all-Parkway Conference selection. But aside from those three, Central Valley’s defense took a pretty major hit due to graduation, losing four veterans (Michael Kupper, Jimmy Pratchenko, Brad Waskaski and Lukas Turley) who each posted 100+ tackles last season.
Offensively, though, Central Valley is loaded. The Warriors return four starters along the offensive line (Travis Tislaretz, Jake Turley, Mike King and Jordan Farrow); quarterbacks Matt Bradford (43-of-89, 757 yds, 29 rush, 111 yds, 12 total TD) and Curtis Lewis (27-of-57, 507 yds, 68 rush, 425 yds, 12 total TD); junior star wide receiver Robert Foster (25 rec., 520 yds, 45 rush, 406 yds, 10 total TD) and tight end Phillis (12, 279, 6). CV averaged 305.4 yards (213.9 rush, 91.5 pass) and 26 points per game last year.
