Thomas Jefferson Jaguars (15-1)

Written by: on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Thomas Jefferson began the year ranked as the #1 Big School team according to WesternPAFootball.net, and finished in the same spot after claiming its third PIAA championship in five years.  Since 2004, TJ has won fewer than 14 games only once (2005).  Some writers have begun applying the term “dynasty” to this team – it’s not a stretch.  Thomas Jefferson’s seven-year run of 93-8 is only bettered by Strath Haven (107-7, 1996-2003) and Berwick Area (158-11, 1987-’98).  In WPIAL terms, the only comparable “AAA” dynasty to TJ would be that of Aliquippa, which played in eight WPIAL title games from 1980-’89, winning five of its WPIAL-record 13 championships in that span.
