Peabody – Carrick Preview

Written by: on Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

The Game: Peabody (8 AA) @ Carrick (8 AAA)

Date: Saturday, Sept. 30, 2008, from Cupples Stadium in Pittsburgh

2007 Record:

Peabody (3-5)

Carrick (5-4)

About Peabody: The Highlanders graduated their starting quarterback for the past two seasons, but return a solid rushing duo in seniors Stewart Townsend and Pierre Carr.  Two seasons ago, Townsend ran for 1,010 yards and five touchdowns.  Last season, he scored 10 touchdowns.  Carr is a speedster, and won a gold medal in the PIAA track and field championships in the 100 meters this past spring.

In all, 15 starters return for the 8-time City League champions, including hulking senior lineman Balial Abby (6’4, 310).

About Carrick: The Raiders return 13 starters from a team which posted a 5-3 regular season record, which was good enough for the best record the school had seen in over two decades.  While they were bounced in the playoffs by Brashear, Carrick might be a year away from having a chance at contending for the City League title, which the Raiders have not won since 1983.

The senior offensive tandem of Bruce Thornton and Ray Sesky (23 total touchdowns scored), coupled with senior OL/DL David Geier and junior QB/TE Ryan Roeper should help Carrick keep up its recent winning ways.  The Raiders’ solid junior class includes lineman Dylan Seddon, LB Jayme Thomas, and WR Chris Nguyen.

Carrick defeated Peabody 37-6 during week five of the 2007 season.
