Peabody – ’60s scene
The Peabody Highlanders continued the pummeling of Langley this past week as the silver and red reached the 60-point mark. It was the second straight week the Mustangs have given up 60+ points after Brashear dropped 61 in a Week 2 meeting.
But what was impressive about Peabody’s performance was this: since 1999, the Highlanders hadn’t scored 60 points in a single game, at all. Their previous game high came against Allderdice in 2003, when Peabody scored 56 points.
A year later, in 2004, Peabody scored 50 points in a victory against Langley. Those are the only other times the Highlanders have reached 50+ points in a game in the last 11 years.
Oliver – Bears can’t quite get to a 3-0 start
Oliver had jumped to a 2-0 start this season, its best since its 2006 team which made it all the way to the PIAA “AAA” quarterfinals. Their bid for a 3-0 start was derailed by Allderdice, 26-0.
Oliver is normally known for being a defensive football team, sometimes winning very low-scoring games. The Bears had been allowing an average of 10 points per game entering the Allderdice game, and the Dragons’ effort was nearly triple that.
The Bears seek a 3-1 start to the season when they play Schenley, a team coming off of a 36-6 loss to Brashear.
