West Allegheny Blasts Moon 46-6

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa- It’s one of the most heated rivalries in the Parkway Conference, let alone the WPIAL. There was no doubt the 2009 edition of West Allegheny and Moon Area, was heated….at least on one sideline.
In the 46-6 loss to the Indians Friday night, the Tigers dropped their 21st straight Parkway Conference game, and now have a disappointing 7-26 record since 2006.
Moon intercepted a pass on the opening drive which gave the Tigers a chance to get off on a good start, but they would return the favor on the next play as quarterback Brian Flannery completed the pass…expect his receiver was in a white jersey giving the ball right back to the Indians.
West-A would not make another mistake with the football as Mike Caputo got the call and went around the left side for a 71-yard touchdown, and the game’s first score.
West Allegheny didn’t look back after that score, getting it done in the air and on the ground. The Indians would take a comfortable 27-0 lead into locker rooms at halftime.
The Tigers came out in the second half wanting to mount a comeback, as Mark Piccolo scampered in for the tigers first score on their first drive of the second half; however that’s all the points Moon would get on the board tonight. Thanks to West Allegheny’s stingy defense, Moon was kept in check and forced to turn the ball over 4 times.
Indians running back Mike Caputo Rushed for 240 yards in the victory over the Tigers and had two rushing touchdowns on runs of 71 and 5 yards.
In the all important first conference game for both teams, it was West Allegheny (2-1, 1-0) that took home the win back to Imperial.
Next week the Indians will take on Ambridge (1-2, 0-1) who lost to Hopewell Friday night 48-6. As for the Moon Area Tigers (0-3, 0-1), they will make the short drive to McKee’s Rocks to battle cross town rival Montour (2-1, 0-0), who took down Ellwood City Friday night by the score of 45-10.
