Jefferson Shuts Out South Park

Could neighboring schools Thomas Jefferson and South Park be the newest big rivalry for the WPIAL? With people speculating that the Thomas Jefferson powerhouse days are over, which includes their huge loss against Cocoa Florida, it seemed like a real possibility. The Jaguars did not look as clean as they used to, by shutting out South Park may be getting them back into the swing of things.
It started out on a sour note for Thomas Jefferson though. Senior TJ Matrascia fell only one yard away from the goal line after a 71 yard run. He did score the touchdown later however, on third down. Two minutes later, junior Ryan Ruffing scored another touchdown for TJ, then after a third touchdown the first quarter ended with Thomas Jefferson in the lead with 21 points to South Park’s zero.
South Park did not give up though. After a fairly uneventful beginning of the second quarter, TJ’s kicker Wainauskis missed the field goal the first time, but finally made it three minutes before half time, adding a few more points to Jefferson’s score.
Around half time, South Park’s senior John Gilmore got fed up with being beaten by his former teammates (Gilmore used to play for TJ in middle school), took off his pads, and left the game.
After half time, South Park still did not score again, but TJ Matrascia scored on a three yard run with a minute left in the third. The game ended with junior Tyler Toboz scoring with 1:39 left, bringing the score to TJ 38, South Park 0.
Hopefully South Park will be able to redeem themselves in their next game, but do not expect anything different from Thomas Jefferson.
