PITTSBURGH- Greensburg Central Catholic dethrones Aliquippa, as head coach Muzzy Colisimo finally get over the hump and gets gold for his Centurions.
Running back David Miller, who has led the WPIAL in scoring the last two seasons, broke the school record for the second time tonight with 37 touchdowns on the season. In the title win, Miller rushed for 203 yards on 34 carries. GCC offense was explosive, racking up 302 total yards. Not to mention the fact the GCC defense held the Quips’ fast scoring offense to one play over 20-yards and three turnovers, something very un-”quip” like.
Making its third WPIAL championship appearance in five years, and its 15th overall, the Centurions finally captured their first-ever WPIAL title.
Aliquippa got on the board first thanks to a 6-yard touchdown run by Mikal Hall, but that would be the last time the Quips would see the endzone.
Miller would counter less than a minute later with a 79-yard touchdown strike to even it the score at 7.
The Centurions would explode for three more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 26-7 lead at the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, Miller would score the lone touchdown of the second half with a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
