2008 WesternPAFootball.net Small School Coach of the Year:

Terry Verrelli, Wilmington Area High School
The last three years, and even prior to that, Wilmington has been one of District 10’s perennial playoff contenders. It was never a question of whether Wilmington would be competitive/dominant in District 10 (that answer is usually a resounding, “Yes”), but whether or not the Hounds could get past the WPIAL. Twice tabbed the underdog, and with blowout losses predicted, Wilmington overcame both Aliquippa and West Catholic in overtime to capture its first PIAA championship. Coach Verrelli won two WPIAL titles in 1987 and 1988, and won District 10 championships from 1994-’97, 2000-’01, and 2006-’08. Verrelli is the second-winningest coach in Lawrence County history (232), behind New Castle’s Phil Bridenbaugh (265), and is the only Lawrence County coach to win a PIAA football championship.
