The Game: Warren (10 AAA) @ Erie Strong Vincent (10 AAA)
Date: Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, from Veterans Stadium in Erie
2008 Record: Warren (1-3), Erie Strong Vincent (4-0)
About Warren: If you are a fan of the Dragons, life hasn’t been good. Warren has only been a winner in three of its past 14 games, and was beaten soundly by Strong Vincent 65-3 a year ago.
The Dragons’ only victory this year came against Class “A” rep Iroquois (27-13).
Warren averages 13.5 points per game and allows 30.8.
About Erie Strong Vincent: If there were any doubts about how the Colonels would do against Erie Prep, well, SV’s defense completely shut the Ramblers down. The flash-and-dash Wing-T is alive and well, and the Colonels’ stable of running backs is putting up some impressive averages, like Strong Vincent’s average of 348 rushing yards per game.
Darrell Brooks has 27 carries for 348 yards and five touchdowns. Brooks is complemented by Deonte Flemings (31, 230, 6), Jordan Ferraro (34, 294, 3), Emari Tangle (25, 214, 3), and Ladon Miller (12, 99, 2).
DJ Barney is off to a decent start passing, considering that Strong Vincent doesn’t pass all that much. Barney is 8-of-16 for 125 yards and three touchdowns. The leading Colonel receiver, senior Robert Joyce, has seven catches for 117 yards and two scores.
SV is averaging 47.5 points per game.
