About North Catholic: The Trojans enter this contest on a three-game winning streak, and are averaging 53 points per game in their last two games, which were victories against Leechburg (66-13) and Wilkinsburg (40-0). North Catholic’s other three victories have come by a combined 13 points, which includes a 21-20 season-opening win against defending WPIAL “A” champion Serra Catholic.
The 5-1 start equals the school’s best six-game start from 2001, when North Catholic, then “AA,” opened with a 45-10 loss to Pittsburgh Central Catholic before reeling off five straight victories. That 2001 season saw the Trojans advance to the WPIAL “AA” semifinals, where NC fell to Beaver Falls 46-30.
North Catholic averages 30.2 points per game while allowing 13.7.
About Riverview: Riverview, located in northeastern Allegheny County in the borough of Oakmont, played in three WPIAL “A” championship games from 1994-’97, winning the ’97 title over Fort Cherry 19-14. It is the school’s only WPIAL football championship.
Riverview has won three of its last four games, but the Raiders’ wins have come against Wilkinsburg, Leechburg, and Carlynton, three sub-.500 teams.
The Raiders, which scored a season-high 47 points in the Leechburg game, are averaging 20.2 points per game, and are allowing 17 points per game on defense.
