PITTSBURGH, Pa- On an overcast fall afterernoon in the city of Pittsburgh the 2008 City League Championship was on the line today at Couples Stadium as Brasher (10-1) took on Perry (9-2).
Brasher had been on the wrong side of the Championship in past seasons to a once power house in Perry, but this year they won their second straight city league crown 26-20.
At the start of the game it look as if Perry was going to steel another title from the Bulls as it was Perry getting on the board first with a 93 yard fumble recovery that went the distance.
Perry would get a two score lead after Rich Lowry scampered in for 21 yards out to give the Commodores a 13-0 lead.
The Bulls would get on the board before the halfs end as James Reed ran in for his first of 4 touchdowns on 10 yard touchdown run, which made the halftime score 13-6.
Reed would add 3 more touchdowns in the second half as the Bulls began to run away with the game up by two scores in the forth, when Perry got in to cut the lead to 26-20, that however is as close as Perry would come this year.
“We got a good team and I think we can do good in states” James Reed said after the game, Reed who has seen 3 different City League schools, going to Perry his freshman year, and then came to Brasher this year and helped the Bulls get their second City League Championship. The Bulls will play Clearfield (9-2) Next Friday Night in the PIAA Playoffs.
“The scored speaks for it self today” Reed said “Perry was a compleatly different team today, then what we saw 10 weeks ago, but we held strong like we have all year”
