Jaguars “Trounce” Trinity 34-7

Written by: on Monday, September 21st, 2009

JEFFERSON HILLS-  The game between Thomas Jefferson and Trinity was most likely one of the most highly anticipated games of the season.  Besides being both teams’ first conference game of the season, Trinity was also ranked #2, directly behind Thomas Jefferson, #1.

If anyone could beat TJ, Trinity would be first in line.

However, despite talk in the preseason about this being a difficult match-up, the Thomas Jefferson powerhouse came out with yet another victory, making them 3-0.

The first score of the game was from Thomas Jefferson, with a touchdown by Stephen Licht in the first few minutes of the first quarter.  This set the tone for the rest of the game.

In the second quarter, WR’s Ed Hasis and Jim Giansante each scored touchdowns against Trinity, led by quarterback Sam Johnston the entire time.  By halftime, the score was 20-0, after one missed extra point by Thomas Jefferson.

Whatever Trinity’s head coach Ed Dalton said in the locker room, it worked as the Hillers got back in the game when their QB, senior Andrew Steratore, threw an 11 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

That was the last time the Jaguar defense allowed Trinity on the board.

In the fourth quarter the Jaguars had scored two more times for another 14 points, the first one was a touchdown from Ryan Ruffing, and the last a run from Johnston. The Trinity Hillers are now 0-3 this season, for the first time in nine years.

This Friday, Trinity is facing off against Elizabeth Forward (2-1), who lost their conference game this past Friday against West Mifflin with a score of 10-9.  Thomas Jefferson is traveling to Ringgold (2-1), who won Friday’s game 59-14 against Southmoreland.

Since Trinity, the team voted most likely to beat TJ, could not pull off a victory, the question still stands; who can?
